Visit the Foundation Alicia

The Black Pea

Last Monday, 17th February 2014, we visited the Alícia Foundation after having been invited by the Berguedà Development Agency with the aim of familiarizing restauranteurs and producers of the Black Pea, such as ourselves, with the results of the study of this native product of Berguedá conducted by the Alícia Foundation. This study was to uncover the origins of the Black Pea, the crop environment, treatment protocols (cooking, soaking, etc ...), new culinary creations with different textures and uses, and the need to give it the recognition it deserves as the PGI (Protected Geographical Indication ) and POD (Protected Origin Denomination). As you may know, the Alícia Foundation, Ali-mentació i cièn-cia, is a research centre dedicated to technological innovation in the kitchen, the improvement of eating habits, and the evaluation of the food and gastronomic heritage. A centre with a social vocation and open to all to promote good food. Alícia is a private, non-profit organization created in 2003, and is divided into three functional areas with interrelated studies: Gastronomic Science and Research Health and Good Eating Habits Food Heritage View News
